Sandwich - Honfleur Twinning Association
The Sandwich Honfleur Twinning Association was formed in 1959 to further friendship and understanding between the medieval towns of Sandwich, Kent and Honfleur in Normandy. The Association flourished until the early 1970s when interest in the exchange visits dwindled. In 2007 a small delegation from Honfleur attended the 550th anniversary of the siege of Sandwich in 1457 in which the Mayor, John Drury, was murdered.
In April 2009, forty seven citizens of Sandwich visited Honfleur at the invitation of the Mayor, Michel Lamarre, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Sandwich with Honfleur and to witness the signing of the Twinning Charter. This visit was a great success and it was decided to re-activate the Sandwich-Honfleur Twinning Association with the main objective of promoting annual exchange visits between the two towns.
In order to further this aim and raise funds a new committee was formed at a public meeting on 21st April 2009.
We sincerely welcome new members, yearly membership is £15 per person and we look forward to seeing both members and non-members at our events. We are currently offering membership until 1st June 2010 for £7.50
